Taylor
Swift is sending a message…and we hear it loud and clear.
Performing
at the Formula 1 U.S. Grand Prix in Austin, Texas on Saturday, October 22, the
country-turned-pop superstar utilized her one and only (or at least first) 2016
performance to seemingly throw a bit of shade towards her ex-boyfriend Calvin
Harris.
Taking to
her piano, the singer debuted her stripped down version of Harris and Rihanna‘s
radio hit, “This Is What You Came For“—a song she wrote under
the pseudonym Nils Sjöberg.
Making no
mention of the track’s producer or original singer, Swift began playing the
recognizable melody to the tune while telling the screaming crowd, “As a
songwriter…the most rewarding feeling in the world is writing something and
having the crowd sing it back to you because they know the words. It’s the
coolest feeling in the world.”
“I’ve
never performed this song live before,” she added, reclaiming the Top 40
EDM-pop jam as her own. “But if you know it, maybe you can sing along and I can
get to know what that feels like…to have it sung back to me.”
The song
is, of course, a point of contention for Taylor and Calvin, who
were still dating at the time of its release in April 2016, mere weeks before
Taylor was spotted with her now former beau, Tom
Hiddleston.
After the
information was leaked that the 1989 performer had written the smash
hit, Calvin slammed Taylor on Twitter, accusing her of trying to “tear [him]
down” and “bury him” like she had allegedly done to Katy Perry.

live performance of the song, below:
